New Camera

Lawson is growing so fast and changing so much and I just can't seem to capture the moments of his life like I've wanted to. So, with a little help from this year's tax return, I broke down and bought a digital SLR camera. It's a little overwhelming and complex, but I'm trying to learn as quickly as possible. So far, I'm really pleased. The image is so much sharper, but the absolute best part is there's almost no delay in snapping shots, which really helps with my little track star. With regular point-and-shoots, he's long gone before the camera actually takes the picture. The SLR is so much better!

Here are the results of my first photo shoot with my new camera. I'm really happy.

I really like this last one. It looks kinda artsy; like something my amazing photographer friend, Susan, would take (althought not quite as good as her pictures!).

Chatterbox

Lawson loves to talk, but I was worried for a long time that he wasn't using many actual English words. I had him evaluated two months ago to see if he needed speech therapy and they said he was behind, but not badly enough to require therapy. Phew! Well, at that point, he knew about 5 words. When we went to the pediatrician this week, I was happy to report he can say 26 words and I was told he has officially caught up with the "normal" scale! Yay!

This morning, he clarified one on his list..."no". He's said no-no (sounds more like new-new) for a few weeks now, but this morning he got better at it. He likes to stand on my toilet in the bathroom to talk to himself while I get dressed for the day. He reached for something he shouldn't have and I simply said "no, you shouldn't have that.". Well, he just thought that was something else and proceeded to practice the word "no" in front of the mirror for oh, about 5 straight minutes!

He'd say it sweetly, then harshly, then while shaking his head, sometimes he'd even slap the top of the toilet and yell it. Oh, boy... I'm in for it now!

PS yes, that's my blush brush in his hand. He does, occasionally, like to brush his cheeks with it... *sigh*

It's Never Too Early...

A couple of days ago, Grandma made a terrific find at a second hand children's store. This little table fits perfectly in our living room and Lawson has spent most of the last two days sitting up to it like such a big boy.

I got Lawson this toy castle for Christmas, but I put it away immediately since he was still a little young for it. I pulled it out today, thinking now would be a great time for him to start enjoying it. I was right - he LOVES this toy! He's played with it most of the day. Of course, I can't leave well enough alone and I taught him a cute trick. If you're familiar with Monty Python and the Holy Grail, click on the link below...

Over The River and Through The Woods...

To Grandmother's (and Grandfather's) house we go.... completely by accident! Here's what happened:

On this lovely St. Patrick's Day, Lawson and I went outside the gate of our apartment complex and decided to go for a walk. We stopped to admire the "flowers" and Lawson learned to blow on them...

Of course, he sometimes gets them a little too close to his mouth and he winds up with all those white fuzzy things stuck to his lips and chin! Silly boy...

As you can see in the above picture, there's a small wooded area behind Lawson and a bridge that goes over a creek. We took a walk across it to see what was on the other side.

The trail emptied out into my parents' neighborhood and I recognized the street we were on, immediately. I knew the neighborhood was close, I just didn't realize it was that close! So we decided to keep walking and soon we were on their street. All in all, we walked 1.5-2 miles (yes, Lawson walked the whole way) and paid a surprise visit. We had some water and played in their backyard. Lawson just loves being outside! We wound up staying so long and Lawson got so tired, Grandma drove us back home, which was so nice. What a fun day!

Wednesday with Grandma

Lawson' s been under the weather this week and so on Wednesday, Grandma came to our house to watch him so he wouldn't get Grandpa sick. Despite a runny nose, he was in good spirits and actually hammed it up for the camera a bit. You faithful followers of this blog will note that it's a very rare thing to get a good shot of Lawson...Grandma got several. I hope you'll indulge me...

Yes, that is an 8 inch sqare box...

Learning to Throw

Lawson has been throwing his big outdoor ball for a while, but he really hasn't thrown his smaller balls yet. Well, he did it by accident this weekend and thought it was the most hilarious thing, ever. He squealed and danced and threw the ball again. I ran to grab my camera to capture this future All Star. His aim is still a little off, and he hasn't grasped the concept of catching, but he's having a blast. Please excuse the atrocious mess in his room! :)

Lawson Throwing

And yes, I do realize that someday very soon I'll be kicking myself for encouraging him to throw a ball indoors....

Grandma and Grandpa

Grandma and Grandpa came over the other night for dinner and stuck around long enough to see Lawson get ready for bed. They helped with the bath and then Grandpa read Lawson his bedtime story.

Lawson gave Grandma some nice cuddles before going down for the night.
