Sesame Street Live

This morning I took Lawson to go see Sesame Street Live.  I wasn't sure how he'd like it since he's not big on noise and commotion so I was a little worried going in.  We talked lots about the show and how fun it would be and he was so good going into the venue.  We got in our seats and the poor kid folded right up!  I guess 30 pounds isn't enough to hold those flip-seats down.  That's lovely I had to pay full price for his ticket, but had to hold him in my lap the whole show...

When the house lights went out and the stage lights came on, along with blaring music, Lawson freaked out a little.  He threw himself into me, covering his ears and eyes, proclaiming loudly "I don't like it!".  But once the show got going, he was so into it. He loved all the characters and the songs and stuff.  I wasn't sure I was going to be able to drag him out of there - he didn't want to go home.  I'm so glad he enjoyed it.  We had such a fun time together!  But, I ran out of the house so fast this morning, I forgot my camera, so those are memories we'll keep in our hearts - sorry we can't share them with y'all.

I'm Not Tired!

Lawson is having some serious sleep difficulties here lately.  He slept through the night at 8 weeks and was an excellent sleeper until 2 or 3 weeks ago and all heck has broken loose.  He wakes up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep...which means I up.  I feel like I have a newborn again.  I've tried a number of different things and nothing is working.  I'm hoping it's just a phase he'll outgrow soon...please, son, SOON!

Friday, he skipped his nap completely and decided to ransack his bedroom instead.  He changed his diaper (at least that's what he told me when I came in to see why the monitor had gone quiet), using powder and everything.  Yay.  He's played with powder before, but never to this extent.  It's everywhere!

Today, he didn't want to nap, but I made him stay in his room (took out all powder-related) items.  I heard him playing with various toys on the monitor, but I couldn't see him.  I finally heard quiet and deep breathing and went to check on him.  Found him here:

Yeah, it's painfully clear he wasn't tired at all!  *sigh*

Snow Day!

A winter storm blew through Thursday and Friday, dumping nearly 9 inches of snow on us. Dallas has never received this much snow at one time...ever. Kinda fun to break a record! Plus, it was the 4th snowfall of the winter...some years we don't even get one...so it's been a real winter here and I'm loving it!

The snow started after officials missed the chance to call off school, so this is what things looked like as I headed off to work Thursday. Remember, we don't get much snow and don't have the kind of infrastructure as northern cities have to deal w/ snow, so even a few inches can be really problematic around here. Plus, we're not used to driving in it, so the roads are crazy scary! No one was happy that school was still in session. All those teenagers out on the roads... oiy...

But honestly, the roads weren't too bad...yet...so we spent some time in the afternoon over at Grandma and Grandpa's house to play in their backyard. Fun times!

School was cancelled Friday, so Lawson and I hunkered down for a play day. One of the many adventures involved finally tackling the gingerbread train we didn’t finish at Christmas. We put it together and then got too busy to decorate it. It’s been sitting on my kitchen counter just waiting for a lazy day. It should say something about this year that it took until mid-February to get around to it… Lawson wasn’t sure what we were doing at first, but he soon got the hang of it and then he LOVED putting candy on the train. He took the whole process so seriously.

Imagine this in motion, if you will. Fists pumping in the air, body bouncing, and a little boy chanting “chugga, chugga, choo-choo!”

Dinosaurs

In my post below, I mentioned we've had a lot going on. So much so that I forgot to post pictures from our adventure at the Heard Museum. It's a small natural history museum nearby that recently had a dinosaur exhibit out on one of its nature trails. The animatronic monsters were so realistic looking - they moved and roared and everything! Scary stuff! Lawson completely freaked out, poor kid, but I braved the T-Rex for a photo-op.

So, no dinosaurs for Lawson, but he did enjoy the popcorn and the topographical map of Texas...

Lazy Weekend...

It's been a nutty few weeks here. January and early February have been a total blur, so much has happened.

Lawson was diagnosed with RSV last week, which is a fancy name for a really really bad cold. I kept him mostly mellow this weekend and we just hung around the house...which can always lead to silliness. Yes, the trash can was empty and it made for a wonderful scene for a great Oscar the Grouch impression.
